Yosemite In Black and White

Matt Tufts came out to Yosemite for a few days and after a day of cragging at Sentinel Creek, we decided to quest up the West Face of the Leaning Tower. Matt had climbed one other multipitch in his life but he had with him a pair of Jim Bridwell’s old ascenders and plenty of stoke. I led every pitch of the climb and Matt followed behind efficiently while taking pictures with his film camera. The day felt pretty casual, and we topped out with plenty of time to get back to the car in the light. There’s nothing I love more than taking friends out into the backcountry or up walls. Whether it’s backpacking, climbing or whatever, I love putting people in uncomfortable, intense, yet safe situations and seeing how they react. Messed up? Perhaps. But also typically rewarding for all parties involved.
